First, Employment Horizons wants to extend a big thank you to everyone that participated in our 2018 Golf Classic. The golfers enjoyed a sunny, fun-filled day that was followed by a dinner and silent auction. We were lucky that the rain held off until all the festivities were over. Everyone’s participation helped Employment Horizons raise over $65,000!

Autumn is creeping up on us, which means it’s time for our Annual Recognition Dinner and our Halloween Bowl-a-thon! The Annual Recognition Dinner will be held at Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park on October 18, 2018 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Tickets are being sold here. The dinner will feature awards, a basket auction, a silent auction, and the 50/50. Come join us for a great night!

The Halloween Bowl-a-thon will be held on October 28 at Hanover Lanes from 12pm to 3pm. Registration is $20 and can be purchased here. As always, there will be lunch and a costume contest so put on your favorite Halloween look and come to Hanover Lanes to support the programs and services here at Employment Horizons! Thank you for supporting us!

Certified ASL Interpreter Joins our Staffing Team

Employment Horizons is excited to introduce the newest member of our team – Sue Peluso! Sue is from East Hanover, and attended Bloomsburg University where she intended on studying Special Education. Once she got to Bloomsburg, she met some Deaf friends that changed her plan. They introduced Sue to the American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter Program at Bloomsburg, and she immediately decided to change direction. After graduating, Sue worked as a freelance ASL interpreter for nineteen years. She has worked everywhere from hospitals to schools to concerts, and loved every minute of it!

After working with a Deaf student for a few years, Sue realized that she wanted to switch her career path. This is what brought her to Employment Horizons. Since starting at EH, Sue has become credentialed by the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services as an ASL interpreter. Her goal is to aid hard of hearing and Deaf individuals at Employment Horizons, helping them find the right job. Our Career Development Services department is also looking forward to working with Janick, one of the Vocational Counselors here at Employment Horizons, who is also credentialed by DVR.

Customer Corner

Employment Horizons has enjoyed working with the Himalayan Salt Company since 2014, when our fulfillment center provided Ernest, the company owner and president, a solution for assembling salt lamp components.

Recently, the Himalayan Salt Company asked Employment Horizons to begin assembling the salt lamp’s cords, bulbs and information cards in plastic clamshell containers that accompany each lamp and every purchase. Ernest says, “This service is a very valuable one, as these items come individually wrapped from overseas. Our relationship with EH allows us to not only benefit from its very good pricing, but it also allows us to create work for those in need, adding value to the process – creating a true win-win for both parties. We also will be considering EH for future kitting jobs for new products and special projects such as gift baskets, etc.”

Employment Horizons and the Himalayan Salt Company have additional projects lined up for the future, and Employment Horizons is being considered for each new item that the Himalayan Salt Company adds to its catalog. Future jobs may include assembly of gift baskets and new kits as the company continues to expand. We look forward to growing our partnership!
