Alec came to Employment Horizons in October of 2015. He quickly began assisting in Café Horizons for break time, prepping and serving the baked goods. After several months of training he began working and training one full day in the culinary program, ultimately moving to two full days. With help from our Culinary Arts Program Supervisor, Elizabeth, Alec has gone from serving baked goods to being able to perform all the necessary tasks to make lunch for all who rely on Café Horizons. When Elizabeth asked him if we wanted to learn to use the grill, his excitement was evident. After learning how to use the grill for all the items Café Horizons prepares, Alec learned how to sauté. Elizabeth says, “Alec is very focused, so he is wonderful at tasks that require him to do things systematically. It is such a joy to work with him and watch him grow as a cook!” He enjoys working in the kitchen and his training has translated into his home life, where he makes dinner for himself and his parents. He hopes to one day work in a grocery store bakery.
